Sharper than stock or Xtol 1+1, some adjacency effects and maybe a bit of a compensation too.

  • Use at least 100ml per roll.
  • Four inversions per minute.
  • 16 minutes at 68F

  1. I need to try this. Very sharp pictures.
Is this Four TIMES every min. i.e. 4 x 5 seconds ea. OR every min. one period of inversion of 4 “ups and downs”

Thanks for the help and posting these. Really great.

  2. Tom, every minute, one period of four inversions. The cycle takes a little less than 10 seconds. I’ll only noted the agitation because I normally I do the Kodak standard of 5 inversions per minute, but I think this has been leading to overdeveloped negs.

  3. Thanks Matt. I’m going to try this today as I have a roll handy.
    Best,
    Tom

  4. Tom,

You might find that this is a good resource for times for Xtol 1+3:

    http://www.covingtoninnovations.com/xtol/

Down the page are some of Kodak’s currently unpublished times.

I’ve tried 1+3 a few times in the past, but I didn’t heed the warning about using at least 100ml per roll. That part seems key. Not enough developer just does not work well. Also, mixing up your xtol with distilled water is apparently suggested as the higher dilutions don’t deal as well with variations of water quality. I use distilled water for everything, so I don’t know if the water quality is really a factor. Just passing it along.

    cheers,

    Matt

BTW, I tried sending this via the email address on your comment, but it bounced back.

  5. Matt, will do. Thank you again.Tom
